Why Should My Church have a Web Site?
Glory to Jesus Christ! Glory forever!
In a world that is constantly changing, it requires continual creativity for parishes to proclaim the Good News as they always have. For many, this has been called the task of making the Word of God relevant to the modern world. However, the real task for all Christians is to make the world and themselves relevant to the Word. "Do not conform yourselves to this age but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and pleasing and perfect" (Romans 12:2). It then behooves us not to conform our churches to this world, but to place ourselves in the world and renew it.
In our current world, the Internet has become the newest and most accessible medium of communication. We can choose to ignore it, conform to it, or conform it to the Gospel of Jesus Christ. USM Webconsulting supports the latter. The Internet is infested with every form of villainy, untruth, and blasphemy imaginable. But like the world itself, we are called to be present in this new medium by lifting up what is good and by giving witness to the truth of Christ's crucifixion, death, resurrection and second and glorious coming. If your parish is witnessing to this through the means of a web site, you already understand this. If you do not, I would like to help you carve out a niche for your parish on the Internet by having a web site.
In the same way you list your parish in the yellow pages, the Internet can be a quick way to let the community know who and where you are. However, unlike the telephone book, you can add photos, events, calendars, and sound. Furthermore, while the phone book only comes out once a year, you can update your web site as often as you would like. The Internet is a quick and easy way to open the doors of your parish to newcomers, visitors, and travelers. More and more young people look first at web pages. It would be unfortunate if we failed to give them the knowledge they desire in order to be active members of the Body of Christ.
USM Webconsulting does not provide webhosting. However, we do recommend certain providers upon request.
